Here is the first part of our eating out on a diet series.

In this article, we will be sharing some tips on what to order in Asian street food restaurants such as Lana, Camile and Ramen if you are dieting/trying to lose weight.

Asian street food restaurants are getting more and more popular these days so it is good to know what some of the lower calorie choices are.

Generally speaking, these are much healthier and lower calorie than most Asian restaurants such as Chinese takeaways.

LOWEST CALORIE DISHES TO ORDER IF YOU ARE ON A DIET:

For starters, some good lower calorie options in these type of restaurants include grilled chicken skewers, summer rolls or broth based soups such as Tom Yum soup.

Tom Yum soup or Ramen style soups are really low in calories for pretty big portions and you can have them as a main course if u are trying to keep your meal out as low calorie as possible. Probably the lowest calorie options on the menu!

Limit battered starters or anything deep fried to save yourself a lot of calories.

For sauces, get them on the side so you can control the portion size. Higher calorie options include satay, creamy based sauces, mayos, sweet chili etc. Lower calorie options include sriracha or soy sauce.

For mains, stir fries are always the lowest calorie options over fried rice dishes, noodle dishes or curries. If you want you can also request little or no oil to be used for cooking which would save you a lot of calories!!!

Curries are usually made with peanut style sauces or coconut based sauces which can add a lot of calories to the meal!

Pad Kha Pao, Pad Prik, Pad King, Thai Garlic & Chili or Chili & Cashew Nuts are good low cal options to go with if going to Lana.

Ramen have a under 600 calorie menu too which makes keeping on track so much easier. Camile also have the nutritional info available on their menus which is great!

Opt for chicken or tiger prawns over beef, lamb or duck as these are much leaner protein options.

For sides, choose a half portion of steamed rice/brown rice, edamame beans or Asian steamed greens over fries, egg fried rice or noodles.

Resisting a bag of prawn crackers will also save you about 700 calories!!

Pad Thai or other noodle dishes can be quite high in calories but you could always ask for extra veg, no/less oil and less noodles to save a few calories if you really wanted to have one of them.

Most of these restaurants give you a free ice-cream at the end of your meal which is always very tempting! Doing things like leaving the rice/carbs out of your meal to save some calories for a 99 cone after can be a good strategy to help keep you on track with your diet! Who can say no to free ice-cream?
