Do you struggle to gain muscle?

Kate did…

But like any problem, there’s always a solution.

Building muscle is kind of like a jigsaw puzzle.

You need to put together all the different pieces and make sure they fit in the right place.

It also makes sense to have an order in which you put them together.

Sure you could just try and throw random pieces together.

But likelihood is that you’ll get fed up, not finish it and throw all the pieces back into the box.

Re-enforcing and improving on each area.

Most people don’t train hard enough to grow muscle.

This is learnt skill.

Those that train hard often miss the mark because there technique is poor.

Doesn’t matter how many darts you throw if you miss the board every time.

Even if you are training hard with good technique, to maximize progress you need to make sure you are eating enough consistently.

Kate was eating north of 2,600 consistently while slowly gaining weight.

Constantly getting feedback on her form and technique.

Making programming adjustments over time to make sure she was continuing to progress.

And then we practiced the art of patience.

This is not a 6 or 8 week thing.

Show me someone who has considerable amount of muscle that hasn’t been training hard consistently for years?

That’s where the goals and targets come in.

We know we have to do this for a long time…

So instead of looking so far ahead, we break things down into smaller chunks, creating goals and targets along the way.

In the business world, this is where you must demonstrate that the product/service can actually do what it's designed to do and what it says it can do.

In fitness this doesn't exist.

You have people who coach people to improve their relationship with food, who still need to improve theirs.

Others who talk about making it a lifestyle who do not live the lifestyle themselves.

People telling you about staying in shape year round but they can't do it themselves.

Losing fat and keeping it off but can't keep it off themselves.

In a business start up, this wouldn't get past the idea generation stage.

Unfortunately in fitness it's not the same.

Just change your Instagram handle and away you go.

I say this not to just 💩 on everyone.

But to understand that as an industry we must do better.

We are failing.

Mental /physical health is getting worse.

If you look at the data and trends, it's scary to think where this could end up in years to come.

As an industry we have to raise our standards.

And that starts with us as coaches and leaders.

Most coaches don't last in the industry more than 2 years.

If we are going to change that, we must approach things differently.
